How Often Should You Detail Your Car in Adelaide?

Adelaide’s climate is harder on a vehicle’s paint and interior than most drivers realise. Between the UV exposure over summer, red dust from the outback, and salt air along the coast, a car parked outside in South Australia accumulates grime faster than one garaged in a milder climate.

A general guide

  • Full exterior + interior detail: every 3–4 months for daily drivers, or every 2 months if the car is parked outside and used regularly on unsealed regional roads.
  • Cut & polish: every 12 months to remove the fine swirl marks and oxidation that build up from regular washing and SA’s harsh UV.
  • Ceramic coating top-up or inspection: once a year, even though the coating itself lasts longer — this catches any spots where protection has worn thin.
  • Interior shampoo: every 6 months for family vehicles, more often if you’re regularly transporting pets, tradie gear, or kids.

Signs your car is overdue

  • Water stops beading and starts sheeting flat across the paint.
  • Red dust residue remains visible after a regular wash.
  • Interior odours persist after airing the car out.
  • Headlights have started to yellow or haze over — a sign UV damage is setting in.

Regional SA has different needs

Vehicles used on gravel roads in the Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu, or further into regional SA pick up dust and grit in places a standard wash misses — wheel arches, door jambs, and boot seals in particular. If you’re covering a lot of unsealed road, it’s worth booking a detail slightly more often than the guide above.
